Welcome to Single Parents Support

Thanks for Visiting!

My name is Nicola, and I became a single parent in July 2012 to my daughter who had just turned one at the time. I set up Single Parent Support on Facebook in October 2012 and I am amazed by the response – it now has more than 14,000 members from all over the world who chat on-line, support each other and attend meet-ups. I have also started a sub group for UK members. I started this group as I was at home every evening with no one to talk to. I thought there had to be other parents in the same situation who needed support, advice and just to chat. I launched this website to complement the Facebook page and share information that I have found out since being a single parent. I have thrown myself into this endeavour, printing and distributing leaflets and business cards, and funding it all myself.

I have also paid for group members to be able to access the Freedom Programme for victims of domestic abuse. I am in talks with various organisations to offer members one-to-one counselling as well as negotiating discounts and restaurants and other venues to help manage the high costs of being a single parent. I have lots of exciting developments lined up in the coming months and working with some great organisations.

Ultimately, I would love to be able to turn the group into a charity and set up a dedicated helpline as I know how much this has helped me. I am now a lot more confident and have made a few life long friends who understand me. There’s a negative stigma attached to single parents, I want other people in my situation to know they are not alone and doing a fantastic job. If I have helped one person to feel better, got the advice they need, then I have done my job! I love helping people and they are not just group members for me, they are a family. I give all my spare time to this as I believe it’s something worth fighting for, and a worthwhile project.

We are now a C.I.C (Community Interest Company), I have also taken courses in safe-guarding and domestic abuse to further help members and now training to be a counsellor.
